Wheels Up is looking for a world-class Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management to join our team of dedicated and passionate professionals, fueled by the most powerful brand in private aviation, as we continue our mission of democratizing the private aviation space through cutting-edge technology and innovative product and service offerings. 


This role will act as a control function for risks impacting our operations, and as we advance our ERM capabilities, we are seeking a Vice President who will have visibility across the organization and who will help us build, implement, and scale the risk identification & controls assessment component. We are looking for an individual whose experience, insights and innovative thinking will elevate our program, who is a strategic communicator, excited to partner with others on and around the team, work cross-functionally with business units and execute on aligned priorities. This position is responsible for collaborating with departments and team members across the organization to develop and implement all components of the firm’s enterprise risk management framework, including our integrated, enterprise-wide approach to building and maintaining a robust risk management feedback loop.  This position reports directly to the Chief Legal Officer and will closely collaborate with the CFO’s organization including Audit.


1. Lead ERM Integration Initiatives and Activities- Align Wheels Up’s global risk management framework and underlying risk programs and processes ensuring the organization is operating under “One Wheels Up,” and in compliance with applicable industry best practices.


2. Design Risk Framework Components- Enhance, build, or expand risk identification, risk scoring, risk appetite, and risk reporting infrastructures, including relevant programs and processes across the global organization, and socialize concepts cross-functionally and geographically utilizing tactical approaches to implementation.

  • Build/Expand risk identification programs to ensure risks are appropriately and consistently managed
  • Create a cross-functional Global Enterprise Risk Committee that provides input into a quarterly enterprise risk report and meets quarterly to review/update the report
  • Develop a common risk scoring and ranking mechanism across organizational risk assessments and reviews
  • Enhance ERM risk reporting for consistency and appropriate coverage
  • Participate in the ongoing development of KPIs, metrics, dashboards, and other capabilities to analyze enterprise risks
  • Establish protocols focused on identifying emerging risks to feed the risk and control self-assessments on an ongoing basis
  • Stay informed on industry trends and developments to advance the enterprise risk programs

3. Support ERM Functions and Objectives- Support other ERM objectives such as corporate educational risk training, expanding risk automation tools, maintenance of ERM policies and documentation, and activities focusing on the advancement of risk accountability and culture.


4. Manage Insurance Portfolio – Conduct negotiations for the procurement of new insurance coverages and the renewal/consolidation of existing coverages, including participating in the formulation of risk management strategy, maintaining the calendar for coverage renewals, preparing presentations, and analyzing pricing options.


5. Manage Claims – Oversee all claims activity, prioritizing recovery from responsible third parties when appropriate, advise on mitigation of exposure when claims must go through our insurance, and informing Finance whether claims are covered by insurance, including for financial reporting purposes.


6. Provide Contract Support – Assist in the review of draft customer and vendor agreements as needed for insurance, indemnification, and liability limitation provisions.


7. Lead Education & Technology Efforts – Develop and lead internal educational ERM programs, and select and implement new software tools that increase efficiency of risk management.


  • Bachelor’s degree required with 8+ years of relevant and progressive experience within risk consulting and/or regulatory agency (aviation and/or technology experience a big plus)
  • Experience and knowledge in building and managing ERM Frameworks
  • Strong understanding of global regulatory regimes facing public companies today, with ability to translate broad guidance into action plans
  • Broad understanding of the inter-dependency between Operational, Technological, Strategic and Reputational Risks as well as general Compliance Standards
  • Excellent collaboration and communications skills with experience influencing, communicating and driving change through cross-functional groups including the ability to diplomatically build consensus across disparate views
  • Strong independent judgement yet work effectively with others in a fast paced and dynamic environment with high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to prioritize deliverables efficiently and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously to drive projects to completion timely
  • Strong proficiency with project management tools, particularly PowerPoint, Visio, Word, Project & Excel
