Role Overview: What You’ll Be Doing 

The Manager, Affiliate Safety (Remote, with heavy travel, up to 75%) plays an important role directly supporting departmental programs and objectives and, working with other departments, helps to shape the ability of the companies across the Wheels Up enterprise to meet the customers’ operational demands. The Manager, Affiliate Safety position helps to promote a world-class culture to ensure the highest levels of compliance with standards, both within the company and with external partners and vendors.  

  • Support, then independently lead, Initial and Recurrent third-party operators through the Independent Risk Management Assessment to become/maintain operator vetted and verified approved 
  • Maintain the documentation and database requirements of the Wheels Up Corporate Safety, Security & Compliance department, helping to coordinate/support the company’s independent safety assessment schedule of 2000+ domestic and international Wheels Up vetted & verified air charter operators.  
  • Manage and continuously improve the associated policies, procedures, training, and technology used. 
  • The anticipated schedule for this role is Monday-Friday 8:00AM – 5:00 PM with adhoc deviation approvals outside working hours. 

Responsibilities

Your Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions) 

  • Manage and facilitate initial and ongoing assessments of our approved air carrier operators.  
  • Help manage and continuously improve the policies, procedures, training, and technology used in the oversight of approved operators, to effectively manage safety risks to an acceptable level.  
  • Support the Assessment Lead in each task breakdown section of vetting and verifying initial/recurrent operators, including participation at onsite assessments, to then independently conduct assessments 
  • Maintain the approved operator database and associated records and documentation.  
  • Track all operational and customer service issues experienced with approved operators.  
  • Help facilitate the promotion of standards compliance throughout the company and externally.  
  • Support the Senior Director, Corporate Safety in the relationships with all external auditing agencies, e.g., ARG/US, Wyvern, IS-BAO, ACSF and others (as appropriate) 
  • Actively participate and as deemed appropriate, lead integration projects with Wheels Up and all applicable entities under the Wheels Up portfolio.  
  • Foster and build professional working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, in particular Safety, Operations, Legal, Corporate Communications, Sales, Training, Human Resources.  
  • Collate, track and benchmark individual operators against the aggregated vetted and verified Safety Performance Indicators.  
  • Work with Third Party Commercial Team to identify and engage with none assessed operators.  
  • Assist in maintaining KPIs, management metrics, reports, and other information as needed.  
  • Maintain and regularly audit the Wheels Up Affiliate Safety Process (WASP) database for partner operator Aircraft and Pilot data. Provide regular training to appropriate internal team members on the same 
  • Provide Approval/Denial on WASP/PASS trips per standards – during and outside typical working day hours 
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned by the Senior Director, Corporate Safety, or higher authority. 

Qualifications

What You Bring to the Table: Education & Certification Requirements 

We’re looking for someone who has a unique mix of experience, skills, and passion for what we do:  

  • High School Diploma or GED required with at least two years of experience in the business aviation or charter industry.  
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of experience in the business aviation or air charter industry is preferred.  
  • Must maintain a current passport and clean Driver’s License

  • Must maintain a working knowledge of applicable FAA regulations and industry best practices.  
  • Demonstrated experience with business aviation and air charter audit and assessment protocols.  
  • Strong ability to assess various operational protocols and procedures to determine suitability with Wheels Up standards.  
  • Strong experience handling multiple complex projects with shifting and/or competing priorities.  
  • Must act with suddenness and accuracy, and complete tasking with same 
  • High level of self-confidence, flexibility, and integrity.  
  • Strong communication skills.  
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.  
  • Candidate will need to accommodate a flexible work schedule.  
  • Candidate must be able to work independently and be relied upon to set appropriate short-term goals as determined by project workload and cross-departmental requests.  
  • Travel will be required. Position is home-based, but candidate must live close to an airport with suitable airline service

Office Work: 

  • Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer for extended periods 
  • Ability to participate in meetings, either in person or virtually 

Travel: 

  • Travel required for meetings, conferences, or company events. This could involve the ability to sit on a plane or in a car for extended periods. 
  • Ability to navigate different environments, such as visiting different offices or attending conferences 

Communication: 

  • Clear verbal communication skills for presentations, meetings, and discussions with stakeholders 
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents and data 

Occasional Lifting: 

  • While unlikely, some positions may involve light lifting (e.g., transporting documents or materials) or moving items for presentations, but this is rarely a primary responsibility in this type of role

Salary Range & Benefits 

At Wheels Up, we believe in fair compensation based on experience, skills, and qualifications. The compensation for this role ranges from $61,000/Yr. to $77,000/Yr., depending on a variety of factors. We don’t typically start individuals at the top of the salary range; your place within the range is based on what you bring to the table. Additionally, you may be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program, which rewards individual and organizational performance.
